When it comes to our furry friends, some dog breeds are better suited for apartment living than others.
If you’re an apartment-dweller and looking to add another member to your family, here are the 8 dog breeds best for apartment living:

Maltese
This little breed of companion dog is only 8 to 10 inches long and typically weighs less than 10 pounds. The Maltese is one of the most well-liked tiny dog breeds for good cause; they are lovable, gregarious, energetic, and space-efficient canines. The breed is renowned for its sweet disposition and love of attention.
Maltese are an excellent choice for apartment living due to their hypoallergenic coat, mild demeanor, low energy levels, and trainability. They do not, however, like to spend time alone themselves. They may grow bitter or envious of other dogs or people if they are left alone for extended periods.
English Bulldog
While not a small dog by any means, with most bullies weighing between 40 to 55 pounds, these wrinkly pups are absolute couch potatoes and would love nothing more than to join in on your Netflix binge session. They do need exercise to stay healthy, however, and are great if you want to explore your city’s streets or loop around the local park.
Be warned English Bulldogs are not quiet dogs, even when they’re sleeping. Their short snouts and stout figures mean they can be quite grunty and snorty and their snores can get loud. This might be a problem if you live in an exceptionally small space, like a studio, and need some occasional peace and quiet.

Great Danes
Yes, they’re massive, and yes, sometimes they knock things (or small children) over when they move around. But Great Danes are fantastic apartment pups! Great Danes need a couple of daily walks, maybe their own couch (they take up a lot of space), and then life is good for them. If you have enough condo space to share with this gentle giant, a lazy Great Dane might be the perfect companion.
King Charles Cavalier Spaniel
Known as the “king of lap dogs,” King Charles Cavalier Spaniels usually form close relationships with their families. For these dogs, who can be very clingy, a smaller living area where they can keep an eye on their person is the ideal existence. This type of dog is especially well-suited for people with hectic schedules who might not spend the entire day at home. They are simple to teach and do well in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Bichon Frise
Bichons are incredibly endearing, hypoallergenic, and rapid learners who adore almost everyone. Weighing about fifteen pounds, this lively friend also doesn’t take up much space on the couch. Best of all, Bichons shed very little (or not at all!).
Pugs
Pugs are very affectionate and cunning, making apartment living easier for their homebody owners. Because of their love of food and tendency to be couch potatoes, pugs are prone to obesity. If you live somewhere with extreme temperatures, take precautions and limit treats.
Goldendoodle
One of the most popular dog breeds, the Goldendoodle, is always at the top of the list when it comes to apartment-friendly breeds. There are several sizes of Goldendoodles, ranging from small to medium. Goldendoodles are incredibly adaptable canines that can fit into a variety of settings, including those that we would typically classify as “small.” Even though Goldendoodles don’t have a lot of energy, they still need to exercise every day to keep healthy and happy, so be sure you know where the closest dog park is.

Havanese
The Havanese breed of dog is hypoallergenic and makes an excellent apartment dog. They are renowned for their lively pace and were bred for sociability. The Havanese is a loyal, amiable, and loving companion. The Havanese need regular brushing due to their long, silky double coat, yet they don’t shed much. They have a warm, fun personality and are normally quiet. Given their affinity for children, Havanese are an excellent option for anyone with a family who lives in an apartment.
